SP 2024 Alphas Report

A New Beginning

I like to think that everyone who has walked through the doors of the Alpha Delta chapter of the Chi Phi Fraternity had a “new beginning.” When I decided to rush in the spring of my freshman year, joining Chi Phi led to my own new beginning. At the start of this year, I began my term as president. That moment in time, I believe, marked a new beginning for our chapter as we had earned our way through and off of social restriction. As a result, our chapter was in a new position, a position our house had not seen in four years—long before I began my time as a brother. Following in the footsteps of both past presidents Chris and Brent, I had set a vision for not only my term but for the future of our house. I see this vision with one word, “growth.”

The first step to this vision was the rush process that occurred in early February. Through a collaboration between the executive board, our rush chair, the rush committee, and the entirety of the brotherhood, Chi Phi recruited 25 solid new members. In addition, the current executive board mostly consists of sophomores. This “new blood” in our leadership has allowed us to proceed with a fresh perspective for our chapter, with the guidance of a few senior members of the executive board. I am excited to see what our future holds. As we approach the 200-year mark for Chi Phi, we should remember that this is not an end date for Chi Phi, but a new beginning.

In Scarlet and Blue,

Nathan Smith, ‘26
